Student Information and Services: For All Students
Academic honesty
Students enrolled in UW courses are expected to observe the code of academic honesty required of University of Washington students. Violation of this code can result in various penalties, including a failing grade in the course and, in some cases, disciplinary actions. Instances of academic dishonesty for credit courses will be handled by the University of Washington Committee on Academic Conduct.
Instances of academic dishonesty for noncredit courses will be handled by an internal UW Extension Committee on Academic Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes plagiarism, defined as offering the language or ideas of someone else as one's own. Plagiarism may range from failure to credit isolated formulas, sentences or paragraphs to copying entire articles from books, periodicals, speeches or writing of other students. If evidence of academic misconduct is established, students
will be given a failing grade for the course and any refund of tuition fees will be denied.

Most UW Extension courses are designed and intended for persons who have completed high school, and are able to benefit from and contribute to courses taught in a university academic setting. Prospective students who have not completed high school are encouraged to investigate UW Extension courses designed specifically for those without advanced education.
In order to ensure a productive educational environment for all participants, prospective students who have not completed high school, but who wish to enroll in a non-youth UW Extension course, should have completed at least the ninth grade and have a 3.3 or better high school grade-point average. In addition, such individuals must provide the following documentation: 1) a written recommendation from their high school counselor or principal; 2) written evidence of formal educational experience in the discipline; and, for minors, 3) parental or guardian consent and a statement of responsibility for the actions and travel arrangements of the individual. High school students who wish to take credit courses should submit their high school transcript.
Some persons may be unable to obtain the above listed documentation.
If you are unable to do so, but believe you can successfully participate in and complete a course, please contact the UW program manager overseeing the particular program, or a UW academic adviser. To obtain the appropriate contact, call 206-897-8939.
Certain courses may have even more extensive prerequisites. If you have questions about the criteria, please call the program manager overseeing the particular program.
